The difference of real single coil and humbucker + EQ is quite apparent, but the answer to the final question - is just one type of pickups/guitar is sufficient is quite personal choice, though. What you are trying to do is to compensate for differences single coil vs humbucker by tweaking your EQ.

The Deluxe Reverb is excellent (Oxford Speaker with some really nice mic choices). It immediately works easily with the HX Deluxes. Quickly 'grab' an SM7 and 121 or 421 and 160 and get a great tone. The Coles and the Shure SMS313 are special. The 414 is super flat and easy to use.
