You can stay general, but then you will remain weak, you can specialise and become more powerful, but there is a cost in terms of being locked in. You can switch it back and forth, but then you need to re-forma and relevel. Choose wisely, Tenno. Same issue appears to impact both pet types from deimos only. Tested it on warframes and weapons plus other pets no problem at all. Trying to switch a polarity on my Crescent Vulpaphyla results in the message 'Reconfiguration could not be completed.
