This is a Islay single malt bottled for Costco's Kirkland brand by Alexander Murray. The label only tells us that it's matured in oak casks and 100 proof. It doesn't have an age, mention chill filtration, or color. My assumption going in is this is a young Caol Ila based on which Islay distilleries usually provide a lot of casks for IBs.First things first, this is a dark-colored dram with a deep, ruddy hue from the sherry cask that makes this Scotch, at the very least, easy on the eyes. The aroma is richly sherried with notes of slivered almonds, marzipan, fig jam, and old leather. There’s a dank mustiness to it, as well, that gives the whole thing an earthy mushroom quality.At 90$ you could probably get a more intense overall experience, but on the other hand where else are you going to get 24 y.o. scotch for under a Benjamin?
