How to replace shift-shaft in rancher 420es. I bought this 2008 rancher last year with only about 300 miles in it. It never shifted right. I replaced the angle sensor and battery, but didn't help. I cleaned the shifter motor brushes as well. I think I finally found the problem- there is play on the spline of the shift shaft.From the basics of what I read prior to buying it, the fixes sounded fairly simple. I recently picked up a 2007 Rancher 420 that was having the typical ES shifting problem seen so often. The problem where it wouldn't even shift. I've gotten that sorted out by going through the wiring harness connections and cleaning them up and adding a little dielectric grease.
