You only need to activate one surface node on a planet to drop the cores forcefield. However all that mcguffin is OPTIONAL, its a completionist pursuit that has no bearing on the game but giving you teleport access that takes way much time to unlock. Challange #1 would be to get back onto the correct tendril. Challange #2 would be getting off the tendril once you're back up to the planets mantle. This can be much easier if you have a drill on your rover. Great advice but let's be real here, who dosnt have a drill on their rover, especially if its stuck on the core.
