The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty - Probably the book that has come the closest to genuinely scaring me. The Shining and Salems Lot by Stephen King - my two favorites of his. The Shining is a great haunted house story and a great descent into madness which are my two favorite horror genres, fascinating story that never gets old. Lately I've had a hard time finding a good scary book to read. I read all of Stephen King (Salem's Lot) and Dean Koontz (Phantoms) books. Peter Straub (Ghost), Dan Simmons (Summer of Night) they're okay but not some of my favorite. I decided to give other horror authors a chance and found a few I actually enjoyed.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown is my favorite sci-fi series. The Red Rising series is great. So many unexpected events. A bit like GOT in that way. I feel like it would make an incredible TV show. It would also need an absurdly high budget though.
