I have a 2001 Mercury 60 HP Bigfoot. It is new to me. The first time out this year the motor ran great for 25 minutes and then died. It would not restart. The next morning the motor started on the first try. The tachometer was not workng and the volt meter did not go above 12 volts even at WOT. I suspect the Volt Reg/Rect.The 60 motor is a popular choice in a tiller boat. So the Mercury 60 interest me as well. Disconect the fuel line between the tank and bulb and blow air in the line and see if you can hear, or see, the air bubbles in the tank with the fill cap removed. The Engine Guardian System monitors the critical sensors on the engine for any early indications of problems. The system will respond to a problem by emitting a continuous beep and/or reducing engine power in order to provide engine protection. If Guardian System has been activated, reduce throttle speed.It start quickly and work well. Then it begin to be a little erratic at idle, but still ok. It run very well above 2000 rpms, but if you stay between 1000 and 2000 for a while it begin to loose power and stall. I changed the IAC valve but the problem persist. Could it be the MAP or TPS.
