It's a 2013 Ford Escape 2.0 turbo. The car dies when I shift the transmission into gear. However, if the car is cold (not warmed up) then it will shift into gear without dying. Once I recognized this I would start the car, put it into gear and allow the car to warm up. But after warmup, still no luck.
