Resolved by rotating the top of the strut from the access inside the cabin around 1/4 to 1/2 of a turn. My noise was only on the passenger side. My 2007 Honda CRV started making a metallic clunking noise a couple of weeks ago. It has been inconsistent and infrequent until this week! The first time I heard it it sounded like I was running over a manhole cover. It sometimes sounds like there is a metal stick stuck in a spoke and it pings out once in a while.
My 07 FA5 sometimes make a "popping or clunking" sound when I turn the steering wheel from a stand still! I've read several threads that it possibly may be one of a few things. I've read that it could either be caused by the BUMP STOP or a LOOSE STEERING RACK! I will lift my FA5 tomorrow at work and definitely check in on these potential problems.
Per Tire Rack, the Continental True Contact tires are better for noise, snow, ice, etc. In fact they seem to be an all round better tire. Tires are a main but not sole culprit in road noise. Only hears it when going over potholes or bumps. Otherwise runs smooth. Checked underside, back seats, seatbelts, nothing seemed loose.
