The thing about dual wield is, the off hand weapon will always do a normal attack, even if you use a skill like sword dance, and your off hand attack stat is halved (except for Erik late game). That one attack from the off hand isn't enough to outdamage greatswords. Option #2 is the Yggdrasil Leaf option, which are quite rare. Option #3 are paying gold (roughly 50GP * character level) at a church/statue to revive them. Snooze/Kasnooze puts enemies to sleep.
