Johnson outboard timing adjustment.

New member. Gday all, recently my idle adjustment at the tiller on my 15hp johnson stopped working. I took a look at it today and couldnt find out the reason why. The adjustment knob at the end spins infinetly. seems as though the plastic thread is either stripped or i have wound the knob off the end of the thread?? does anyone know a repair ...Jun 23, 2019. #1. Jun 21, 2017 · 3. Jun 21, 2017. #1. I recently purchased a lake home that came with a 1990 24 ft. Suncruiser pontoon with a Johnson 90 hp V4. The boat was hard to start from sitting a couple of years but once it got going it would run pretty good. Idle was low and would stall going into gear.

Hi there, I have a 1992 Johnson v4 outboard that I have a couple questions on. The engine runs great once started but when I start it up it has trouble in low idle. I use the high idle lever to start it, then have to quickly switch into gear when I put the lever down or else it will shut down.

Idle timing for that motor is 0-2 ATDC and speed is 775-825.. Idle RPM is adjusted with the IDLE timing screw, which adjusts the timing at idle only. If your throttle cable was smooth before you rebuilt the carbs and now the cable has alot of resistance, the cable is binding or the carb linkage rods are in the wrong place or maybe upsidedown. Jun 24, 2015. #10. 140 is great compression. get your timing set right and your linkage right and carbs clean and fuel flowing properly and that motor should run out strong. you may want to run 93 octane in that motor. I would not say that you have too but you would see a performance gain as well as MPG increase.

Here is a pic the 2 orange dot must touch when you advance the throttle with the control. To get the engine out of quick start disconnect the white/black wire and ground the white/black coming from the power pack. This will put the engine into normal operation. To disable the slow mode just disconnect the tan wire.

Throttle pickup timing (when the cam hits the roller) should be approximatly 4 deg ATDC.
